portraits
The decision to immerse myself in the realm of portraiture intimidates and excites me. A classic forum for artistic expression, many of my favourite painters throughout the centuries have executed the most magical portraits. The starting point for this undertaking was essentially fear. I work the surface of the face repeatedly, until the elements distill into a cohesive 'whole', rather than a faithful facsimile of the selected person's face. Knowing when to stop working on a portrait is a mercurial decision/happening, and the majority of the time I leave it to the marks themselves to dictate that point. Maintaining my vision and esthetic, I strive to create painting that are true to myself, whilst remembering the pantheon of artists who have inspired me to become a painter in the first place.
